Pete the Cat Helped Us Rock Our First Month of School! 

September was such an exciting month as we kicked off a brand-new school year. We learned all about making friends, exploring our classroom, and getting into the groove of school routines. To make it even more fun, we had a Pete the Cat theme, because starting school is all about rocking our shoes, trying new things, and keeping a positive attitude. We’re off to a groovy start, and we can’t wait to share all the fun learning ahead and all the fun activities we did this month!

September was all about learning how to be part of our school family and getting into the rhythm of our daily routines. The children worked hard to practice important skills that help our day run smoothly like washing hands when we arrive, sitting down together for breakfast, gathering for circle time, and heading outside to play and being able to sit for fun art activities. These routines help us feel safe, confident, and ready to learn!

We spent time this month working on activities that supported both fine motor skills and early letter recognition. First, the children colored a pineapple to celebrate our classroom theme. Then, they decorated their very own Pete the Cat shoe! Each child chose the color they liked best and added fun materials like pom-poms, pipe cleaners, and Model Magic to design their perfect shoe.

Another favorite activity was exploring the first letter of their names. Each child received a large cut-out of their first initial, spread glue across the paper, and carefully placed buttons on top. This activity gave them practice with grasping and releasing both small and large objects—an important skill for building hand strength and control.

Next month, our classroom will explore the wonders of the night! We’ll be learning all about nocturnal animals like owls, bats, and raccoons and discovering what makes them so special after the sun goes down. We’ll also take a trip into outer space with activities about galaxies, stars, and planets. Through stories, art, and hands-on exploration, the children will imagine what happens while the world is sleeping and dream big about what’s beyond the sky.
